A 71 year old man is claiming personal injury compensation after being left paralysed by a freak wave while on holiday in Cape Verde.
Mick Collier suffered neck and back injuries in the accident.
He claims lifeguards at the five star hotel had raised an orange flag to indicate it was safe to enter the water.
Collier is now unable to use his limbs or feed himself.
After being treated in a local hospital where he spent five days, he was then airlifted back to the UK.
Seventeen months following on from the incident, Collier remains in hospital and is being cared for in a specialist unit.
Collier requires round-the-clock care as well as physiotherapy, speech therapy and counselling.
