An uninsured driver drove down a duel carriageway towards oncoming traffic in Northumbria at speeds of up to 70mph to shake off police.
The driver went on to drive the wrong way round a roundabout.
He ignored red lights and subsequently collided with another car.
Lewis Nesbitt, 25, however, abandoned his car and was caught by the police standing at a bus stop.
Nesbitt was arrested and charged with several motoring offences, including dangerous driving, no insurance and driving without a licence.
He pleaded guilty to all offences at Newcastle Crown Court.
Pc Steven Hackett, of Northumbria Police’s motor patrols department, said: “Nesbitt’s erratic behaviour on that morning could have easily resulted in serious injury or death.”
