Estimates from the Office for National Statistics found that immigration to the UK from the EU remains at its lowest level since 2013.
The ONS, however, had to admit the reliability of the data set had been called into question and therefore had been downgraded from “national statistic” status to “experimental.”
The data showed net migration to the UK was 226,000 in the year to March.
The figures found the number of EU citizens arriving in the UK has continued to fall since 2016, mainly because of a decline in people coming to the country for work, the ONS said.
The figures show that 52,000 more UK citizens left the country than returned home.
