A businessman embroiled in a fight over money with his estranged wife has failed to convince a judge that he has lost a £30 million fortune and is in “negative territory”.
He told Mr Justice Cohen he had been worth about £30 million in 2007, the year he married his wife, but had lost “all his personal wealth” and was in “dire” circumstances reports PA.
The 53-year-old man from the Ukraine said there had been no “marital acquest” during his decade-long marriage.
His 39-year-old Ukrainian wife, who is now a British citizen and had filed for divorce in England, said he had “substantial undisclosed wealth”, and Mr Justice Cohen has ruled in her favour.
Mr Justice Cohen concluded that the man had £13 million worth of property in England and Spain and was confident that he had “larger resources in Ukraine”.
The judge, who is based in the Family Division of the High Court in London, has ruled that the man’s estranged wife should walk away with an £8 million lump sum.
He has outlined detail of the case in a ruling published online following a recent family court hearing.
The judge did not name the man or woman in his ruling.
