A businessman repeatedly caught speeding in his Range Rover escaped a lengthy driving ban after insisting it would ruin his son’s dreams of playing Premier League football.
Philip Davies, 50, had been facing a ban of at least six months after a speed camera captured him driving at 37mph and then 39mph in a 30mph zone.
Davies had already racked up 13 points on his license.
He insisted that any long-term ban would stop him taking his 13-year-old son to training sessions and matches with Burnley FC’s Academy squad.
Pleading ‘exceptional hardship’, he told magistrates that his son was ‘not in the position’ to use public transport for the three-hour round trip and risked having his contract terminated.
Davies was banned from driving for six weeks.
